Atlanta Overview
Atlanta, Georgia is a beautiful, bustling, historical city that sits amid gently rolling hills and shady tree-lined streets. With picture-perfect neighborhoods, a mild climate (albeit humid in the summer), an impressive skyline, steady economic growth, and some of the best restaurants and shopping malls in the country - what's not to love about Atlanta?
Atlanta is also known for its flourishing arts scene with a well-regarded symphony, several major art and science museums, opera, jazz, theater, and an outstanding ballet company. For the sports lover, Atlanta is home to four professional sports teams.
Georgia is known as the "Peach State" which is probably why so many streets and restaurants in Atlanta are named with some variation of "peach", as in Peachtree Street. Although peaches are grown in Georgia, Atlanta is known more for being the transportation center of the South. Atlanta's Hartsfield International Airport is one of the nation's busiest airports and is the southern hub for most airlines. Several major interstate highways converge in Atlanta. The city is also the world headquarters for many Fortune 500 companies and more than 1,000 international companies do business in Atlanta.
Visitors are delighted to find that the people of Atlanta are charming and mannerly, as one might suspect in a southern city, yet cosmopolitan and sophisticated. More than 50% are transplants from other states and countries that find themselves blending into the culture of the South.
