Austin Entertainment
Austin has a myriad of activities and natural attractions. Boaters, swimmers, and fishermen love the Highland Lakes, a chain of seven lakes in the Austin area. An interesting sight for visitors are the Mexican free-tail bats that fly from the Congress Avenue Bridge on summer evenings. There are also hiking and biking trails, museums, the Barton Springs Pool, and music, music, music!

The longest running music show on PBS, Austin City Limits premiered in 1976 and presents the best performers of every music genre. Tickets are required to watch a taping of the show.
Barton Springs Pool, Zilker Park

Clear water from the Edwards Aquifer fills the Barton Springs Pool, which has a natural limestone bottom. Native Americans believe that the spring-fed pool has spiritual powers. Lifeguards are on duty.
George Washington Carver Museum

Highland Lakes is a beautiful chain of lakes that stretch 150 miles northwest of Austin. Town Lake is in the heart of downtown and features a hike/bike trail and a park along the shoreline. The largest lake in the chain is Lake Travis, which locals love for boating and other water sports.
Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center

Founded by Lady Bird Johnson, this research center studies the preservation of native plants. The center has beautiful display gardens, a library, and a visitor's center and giftshop.
