Denver OverviewDenver, Colorado is one of the fastest growing cities in the nation: 60% of the population is made up of newcomers. Denver is an upscale, trendy city that has retained its Western heritage by combining the polished glass of the newer high-technology firms with the older renovated buildings of the past for a charming eclectic mix.With an altitude of 5,282 feet above sea level, Denver has earned the name of the "Mile High City". Denver itself is actually flat with a backdrop of the Rocky Mountains that helps block severe storms and keeps the climate mild (over 300 days of sunshine a year). The city of Denver is a great place to explore and for nature lovers, fishing, biking, hiking, camping and skiing are just minutes away. Denver Colorado Neighborhoods Cherry Creek The Cherry Creek neighborhood is just east of the Denver Country Club and is considered to be Denver's premiere retail and arts district. The Cherry Creek Mall is a favorite of Denverites and visitors alike. Downtown Downtown Denver centers around 17th Avenue, know as "restaurant row" for its trendy dining spots. The Capitol Hill area has most of the historic mansion tours ; a stretch of Grant Street was once known as "Millionaires Row". Many of the mansions have now been converted to condos, offices, and bed and breakfast inns. Five Points District The Five Points District, located northeast of Downtown, was built in the 1870's to house black railroad workers and today it is still prominently an Afro-American community. Lower Downtown Historic District - LoDo LoDo is a revitalized district bordered by 14th and 20th and Larimer and Wynkoop streets. It was developed in the 1860s and has some of the oldest commercial buildings in Denver, some with Victorian or interesting architectural features. LoDo is the trendy section of Denver with lots of boutiques, restaurants, art galleries, and nightclubs and is a happening place any time of day or night.
